The Body Requires Food Not Isolated Elements
We often get asked what our opinion is on certain supplements and food products. Our philosophy is very simple. We strongly advise against taking isolated nutrients i.e. Magnesium Citrate, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12, etc.. These are all lab made chemicals! They are poor attempts to replicate nutrients that are found in nature. Our bodies do not absorb and utilize these lab made supplements as they would the actual nutrient provided by nature. In nature, nutrients are ideally offered in combination with other beneficial nutrients. They work together and are provided in balance. Nutrients are to be provided by Nature. The addition of one such nutrient can disrupt the fine balance that is to be maintained in our bodies. In other words, taking a vitamin and not having its synergists present, will render the initial vitamin useless. Also, consuming too much of the said Vitamin can antagonize and offset the balance of other vitamins, minerals, and/or essential fatty acids in our system.
Here are a few of the ways minerals interact. If you think your multi-vitamins and isolated nutrients can compete with nature… please think again.
Vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids taken out of context will antagonize other vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. For example: vitamin A antagonizes vitamin D, and the calcium response to vitamin D; vitamin D will antagonize calcium; inorganic calcium and potassium antagonize magnesium; vitamin E antagonizes other essential fatty acids, and vitamins A and K; vitamin C antagonizes vitamin K and copper; when you knock out copper, you cannot convert progesterone to testosterone and estrogen.
Most vitamins in supplements are petroleum extracts, coal tar derivatives, and/or chemically processed sugar (plus sometimes industrially processed fish oils), with other acids and industrial chemicals (such as formaldehyde) used to process them. Vitamins found in any real food are chemically and structurally different from those commonly found in “natural vitamin” formulas.
The consumption of amino acids tampers with the hormonal and chemical processes in the body. Isolated amino acids have been linked to skin and blood disorders, vomiting, respiratory problems, seizures, drowsiness, brain-damage, and altering blood sugar levels, leading to a hypoglycemic seizures. Protein Powders are a highly processed food supplements that are depleted of all vital life-forces; they must be refined so they have a long, stable shelf-life.
Frequently Brought Up Examples:
Magnesium Citrate - is very hard to digest, your body will need to create more acid in an attempt to break it down and absorb it. We consume Electrolyte Balance™ for our Magnesium, which also functions as ant-acid. This product contains the four major electrolyte mineral salts, Magnesium Bicarbonate (for the majority), Calcium Bicarbonate, Potassium Bicarbonate and Sodium Bicarbonate as well as Silica (silicic acid). As land mammals, our bodies require all of them. Ideally, in nature we would have consumed these Electrolytes in fresh pristine drinking water. These Electrolyte salts would have also been present in their Bicarbonate form.
Vitamin C - We supplement Vitamin C through our intake of Bee Pollen. A synergistic whole food source. The Vitamin C provided in lab produced supplement forms is Ascorbic Acid, this is not even Vitamin C. Ascorbic acid is the protective packaging that incases Vitamin C. True Vitamin C is much more complex than just “ascorbic acid”. Some people notice an affect from Ascorbic Acid because it produces an acidic environment within your body. The acidic environment can have a detrimental effect on some bacteria & viruses. Which can be beneficial by temporarily reducing the quantity of the bacteria or virus, but is not a long term resolution & is not helping your immune system / functioning.
Vitamin D-3 - We are supposed to get Vitamin D from the sun. At first from exposure to UVB rays, which are prevalent during spring and summer, we get Vitamin D, this is converted to Vitamin D3, and the body keeps a reserve to be utilized through the fall and winter when UVB exposure is minimal. If sun exposure does not occur, allowing for production of Vitamin D, the body will end up producing additional cholesterol with these unused resources. Taking Vitamin D supplements has many disadvantages, one of them being that it can deplete your Calcium.
Vitamin B-12 - We consume Bee Pollen and Royal Jelly for a balanced and ample array of B Vitamins. The B Vitamins work together in synergy. You should consume a whole food source which provides multiple B Vitamins.
“Brand X” Sport Supplement - These are typically a blend of lab made isolated nutrients. A whole food source is preferential. There have been studies showing that men who consume a multivitamin actually increase their chances of Prostate Cancer. We consume Bee Pollen and Royal Jelly for our Vitamins. Additionally, Propolis (another product from the bee’s, which has antibacterial, anti fungal, and anti viral properties) contains every vitamin except for Vitamin K. We consume Shilajit (84 trace minerals plus fulvic, humic, and ulmic acid) for our minerals. Additionally, Shilajit assists in energizing the body and providing organization: helping the body to make use of present resources while purging items that are debilitating or hindering to our system.
Oils - are processed foods, they do not exist in nature, they are man made! However, we do need quality fats in our diet. Fat is fuel! It is suggested that we should consume a ratio of 1:2, omega 3 to omega 6’s. The current western diet is reported as having a ratio of 1:25 to 1:50, omega 3 to omega 6, respectively. Our present diet is overloaded with Omega 6’s from grains, nuts, seeds, and processed foods. Additionally, dairy products and meat from livestock that consumes these foods (grain feed, corn, and soy) is extremely high in Omega 6. Our livestock should be consuming grass, which would result in its meat and dairy being a stronger source of omega 3’s. Additionally, Omega 3’s and 6’s are sensitive to light, heat and oxygen. Omega 3 being more sensitive than omega 6. If the oil is old or damaged it becomes rancid, and thus carcinogenic. So you definitely want to scrutinize any Fatty Acid supplement before investing your time, money and health in it.
